Church School Open to 3 year- olds to 5th grades. Students attend weekly classes offered from September through May. Class times: Sunday - 9:15 a.m., 10:15 a.m. Wednesday - 5:15 p.m., 6:15 p.m. Class Size At Sharon Lutheran we think class size is important for the safety as well as the faith formation of each student. For this reason our class sizes are set to meet the needs of students and teachers increasing an environment that promotes a relationship ministry. Unfortunately this also limits us to how accommodating we can be. Currently registrations are being accepted and classes are being formed. Your early registration offers you the best possible chance to find a class for your child that fits your schedule. No families will be turned away, however there may be times when a family may have to register in a second or third choice time for the health of our program. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause and again recommend early registration. General We are currently in year 4 of a 4 year cycle of a curriculum adapted from Augsburg Fortress, Firelight. Students spend two weeks on each lesson. There is equal time spent in Old and New Testaments. Week one introduces the Bible story and offers arts crafts worksheets, games, drama, videos, food, etc. Week two works as review and offers a continuation of week one. We are finding a great success in students abilities to remember stories week to week. Many times throughout the year students will also receive lessons on Luther's Catechism. Baptism, Communion, the Lord's prayer and the Apostle's creed are woven into the fabric many of the lessons throughout the year. During the current Church School year parents will be able to access what Bible lessons their children are learning. See the Church School Schedule for more information. Lectionary Students may receive special lessons that follow the lectionary during the special church seasons such as Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Easter and Pentecost. Stewardship Students receive offering envelopes at the beginning of each month. A weekly offering is collected during all music times. The board of education along with our director is always seeking to connect children to where and what their offerings go towards. A few project our church school students have been part of this past year: Collect school supplies for Lutheran World Relief, Coins for Missionaries, Coins for Heifer Project, Purchased Christmas Gifts for 10 families in the community and much more. Special Needs We work hard here at Sharon to meet the needs of ALL families. If you have a child, youth or adult with special needs please contact Rachael at the church office. We will work with your family so ALL people may worship and participate in confirmation, Church School and other activities of our parish. |
