Sharon Lutheran Church: April 2007 Newsletter

This group meets on Sunday evenings at 6:30 p.m. in the lounge. Using a variety of study methods we share conversation and reflection around the Bible readings for the next Sunday. No advance preparation is required and you may attend as you are able. This is a wonderful way to deepen your understanding of the Scripture heard in worship. This weekly Bible Study delves into a book of the Bible for study and discussion. Everyone is welcome to join us (even if you weren’t part of the study before). The hour-long study begins at 9:45 AM each Wednesday in the choir room. The coffee pot is always on and quite often snacks make their way into the room as well.

Traditionally, quilt blocks were named for Bible stories. This monthly Bible study focuses on a particular story that is linked to a quilt block. Patterns for quilt blocks based on the stories are provided for those who want them. Upcoming studies: Ephesians (armor of God), Solomon, Palm Sunday- Jesus in Jerusalem. You also may attend once or as many times as you wish. Contact Pastor Deanna with questions. Stories of the Bible meets on the 4th Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m.

Two sessions will be offered each Sunday, coinciding with the two church school sessions which meet from 9:45 – 10:30 and 10:45-11:30 am. The three pastors will alternate in leading the sessions. Coffee and donuts may be enjoyed during the class.

The Living Our Faith Bible Study will be going on hiatus through the Spring & Summer months. Look for the new & improved Living Our Faith this Fall!

ATTENTION!!! 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th Grade Confirmation Students. Regular Confirmation classes resume Wednesday, April 11th.

In the month of April we will collect Church School Offering for ELCA Life-giving Water. Life-giving Water works to bring countries fresh water. The money goes to buy water pumps, treatment filters, build a home cistern to collect rain water, provides for digging a well and builds community irrigation or water reservoir system. 50% of the offering collected through Church School will be designated and sent directly to the ELCA/Life-giving Water. Thank in for your generosity!

In January & February, Church School students collected $880 that was sent to support mission work in Africa and Mexico. Thank you to the students and families!

4th Grade Gospel of Mark Recognition Sunday, April 15th and Wednesday April 18th.

5th Grade 1st Communion Sessions. Please note: Students and Parents will attend all sessions together. Sunday, April 1st 4:30 – 6:00. 1st Communion will take place at all worship services on Maundy Thursday, April 5th. Worship will be held at 12:00, 5:30 and 7:00 P.M.

Avalanche Ranch VBS (Vacation Bible School). Sunday, June 3rd – Wednesday, June 6th 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Come and join the FUN!

WHAT: Education Month the time of year where Church School and Confirmation Information, Registrations and Dates for the coming year (2007-2008) are sent home to families.

WHO: All families who have children age 3 through the 10th Grade will receive a Registration Packet directly mailed to their home. If you have not received your packet by April 20th, please contact the Church Office.

WHY: Registration is essential in the planning of Church School and Confirmation. Registration is a huge factor in the development and planning of classes and programs. Early registration also insures the opportunity for your child to be registered in your first choice time.

WHEN: We begin receiving registrations by mail or at the table in the Narthex starting April 15, 2007. No phone registrations please.

OTHER: Church School is offered on Sundays and Wednesdays for children 3 year-olds (By September 1st, 2007) through the 5th Grade.

Sunday 9:30 a.m. – 10:15 a.m. Wednesday 5:15 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Sunday 11:00 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. Wednesday 6:15 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

Weekly Confirmation is held on Wednesday nights for 6th, 7th, 8th & 9th Grade students. Confirmation is held in the Fellowship hall from 7:15 p.m. – 8:15 p.m.
