Middle School Mission Trip 2007

Several middle school youth & adults are getting ready for a mission trip to Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada ; the trip dates are June 9-16. We’ll be experiencing this trip with our friends from Calvary Lutheran Church in Grand Forks and Calvary Lutheran Church in Bemidji; it will be so much fun to connect with good friends!

Our experience will be led by Youthworks! Youthworks! is a multi-denominational ministry dedicated to providing life changing, Christ centered youth mission opportunities. By creating experiences that are youth minded, servant lead, relationship oriented, life changing, multi-denominational, and ministry focused, participants are able to become “actual hands and feet of Christ” and build powerful relationships with the people they work with.

We will be working in Thunder Bay, Ontario, on the Canadian North Shore of Lake Superior. While there, we will partner with local ministries and programs that already seek to address the needs of Thunder Bay's residents. Examples include maintenance projects, visiting with the elderly at local nursing homes, serving the homeless in the community, and serving the natives of the area.

Thunder Bay prides itself on being very diverse in cultural makeup and very clean with an ideal appearance. However, the city still struggles with many socio-economic issues that date as far back as 1996 when governmental changes in Canadian economic policy resulted in repeated cuts in social service spending. Welfare benefits dropped 22% and affected the country in huge ways. We will go there...and we will love them!!!
