All are welcome to worship at Sharon Lutheran Church.  Worship gathers us as one body, invites us to hear God's Word, leads us to experience God's grace in baptism and communion, and then sends us out to engage and serve the world.

Happy New Year 2017

Dear Friends,

Happy New Year! We’ve entered the year 2017! What does this year hold for you? Are you planning a family wedding, an anniversary, a reunion, a special vacation trip, or any other special observance this year? Is it a milestone year for you in terms of a birthday or anniversary; is it a year for retirement or change of job or location?

Obviously for the Sharon Lutheran family, it is a significant year in that Dominique Buchholz will join us as Associate Pastor. She will begin her duties with us on February 1st . We look forward to having her join our Sharon staff and we are excited for the personal gifts she will bring to our congregation. Make sure you introduce yourself to her and get to know her. Make her feel as welcomed as possible to our Sharon community!

For the Lutheran family this is also a significant year since it marks the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. It was in 1517 that Luther nailed the 95 these to the church door in Wittenberg, Germany. We’ve already been gearing up for this momentous year in 2016, but now we begin this year-long observance. Through various studies, including LIFT and our Men’s Study, we will explore more about what it means to be a Lutheran. Watch for events and opportunities this year to discover more about our heritage. It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to celebrate such a key observance in our faith, so avail yourself of every opportunity to discover, learn, and celebrate!

As you hopefully know by now, my wife Kathy and I, along with our two clergy colleagues, Chad and Sonja Brucklacher, will be hosting a trip to Germany this summer to explore and learn more about the various sites that were key for Martin Luther in the Reformation era. I look forward to this personal time of growth and celebration, for Germany is my heritage homeland and I have never visited this country before. Spots are still available on this trip, so if you are interested, read the article about this trip in this newsletter or speak to me personally about it. Brochures are still available from me or the Welcome Center at church.

Whatever this year holds for you, enter it with hope and anticipation. If you make resolutions this month, make them achievable and realistic. Above all, resolve to make this a year in which your faith, your worship life, and your personal devotional life are prioritized.

Blessings to you in this new year!
Pastor John
